Harbor Chase of North Collier Memory Care

There’s nothing better than unconditional love and acceptance to make your day complete. For our residents, Balou represents all that is comforting and wonderful in the world. Balou brings cheer to our residents and reminds them of previous dogs they had when younger. Balou is gentle and calm and super well-behaved. We are thrilled to have Balou as a weekly Therapy Dog visitor.

Dear Balou,

Thank you Balou for taking time out of your busy schedule to come and put a smile on my mom's face.  Even though cats are her first love,  animals of all walks bring a smile to her face.  I'm quite certain all the residents at Harbor Chase enjoy your visits.  What a wonderful way to honor our seniors!

Thanks again,

My Mother has been stolen away from me a day at a time with dementia.  As sad as it is I have wonderful memories of the times she has spent with Balou.  My Mother’s kindness did not leave her and her love for animals is so very obvious when she sees Balou.  She lights up and pets Balou so very gently, the smile on her face will be with me forever.  One of my fondest memories.  Thank you Balou for bringing my Mom such happiness and me the wonderful memories.

Balou has visited 2 facilities that I have worked at over the past 2 years & when he & Aqua spend time at American Home they bring light & love to the day of residents who are missing their past pets. People who become less able bodied with age or as the result of tragic accidents & people who are less able to communicate with loved ones & friends due to debilitating illnesses like dementia feel a sense of comfort when they can see, pet or snuggle a therapy dog like Balou. He & Aqua are friendly, loving & well behaved & we are always happy to welcome them at American House.

It’s so good that the therapy dogs Balou & Aqua are shared with the memory care residents at American House. Like music, the affection of an animal, seems to reach a place in those suffering with dementia, that words often cannot – providing a true comfort, as well as a happy distraction. Balou & Aqua are exceptionally friendly and loving, and I sincerely appreciate them visiting my Mother and brightening up her day.

It is always a great day when Balou & Aqua come to visit my wife at American House. She loves dogs & despite her dementia the visits pick her up.
